10 Board Games to Play this Winter

The weather outside is still frightful. But Beacon Hill is so delightful.

As Old Man Winter continues, what can you do to ensure you don’t become too bored, especially as you’re inside day after day?

To ensure the rest of your winter is as enjoyable as possible—especially as spring nears—consider playing the following board games. They provide endless hours of entertainment. They bring people together. And, in some cases, they’ll remind you of your childhood.

Backgammon. A two-player game, backgammon is likely the oldest game that’s featured in this article. In fact, some believe it dates back to the 1600s. Nearly 500 years later, it continues to draw new players that appreciate its challenges. You’ll likely find other Beacon Hill residents that will appreciate its challenges and history, too!

Battleship. When people first think about Battleship, they may describe it as a kids game. But that is far from the truth. It was created for people of all ages, actually. A two-player game as well, Battleship will provide you an opportunity to gather some residents together, play against one another, and—when they aren’t playing—watch their fellow residents compete. You’ll all feel like kids again!

Checkers. If you’re interested in spending one-on-one time with people, checkers is a great option. It’s relatively fast paced, very enjoyable, and often leads to conversations with your opponent. Most likely, you’ll be able to create a checkers group—comprised of fellow Beacon Hill residents that will love to play this classic game with you. Enjoy!

Chess. Another classic, chess is certainly more complicated than checkers. But if you and some of your fellow residents are interested in challenging yourselves, look no further than chess! If you’re a big-time fan of the game, you may even become especially close to a few other residents that are also mega fans. Even if you aren’t a huge fanatic, you’ll likely find some other folks that simply want to play chess from time to time as well.

Jenga. Perhaps you have some neighbors that don’t like to play board games? They’ll likely join you for a game (or more) of Jenga though! After all, who doesn’t love the challenge of building a tower and ultimately watching it fall? Aside from bringing a group of people together to play, you can play Jenga by yourself, too.

Monopoly. Simply put, this game is an absolute classic. Created in 1935, it continues to entertain people around the world to this day. Whether you love collecting properties, winning free parking prizes or watching your collection of cash pile up, Monopoly is a game that will maintain your interest for hours at a time. Gather some friends together and relish this classic with them!

Scrabble. Since 1948, Scrabble has entertained millions of people around the world. It’s a game that can be simultaneously fun and challenging, leading to its ongoing popularity. Consider joining the millions of other people that love this classic game—by hosting Scrabble get-togethers at your residence. You’ll likely meet new friends at Beacon Hill in no time!

The Game of Life. There is arguably no other board game that will lead you to remember various aspects of your life more than this one. Marriage. Pregnancies. Jobs. Raising children. Spoiling grandchildren. This game features nearly every aspect of life, resulting in its ongoing popularity since it was first released in 1860.

Trivial Pursuit. In 1981, Trivial Pursuit was released for the first time. Since then, it has steadily become more popular, as it enables a large group of people to come together and socialize. If you’re interested in meeting new friends at Beacon Hill and inviting numerous people to enjoy a game at your residence, Trivial Pursuit is a great option for you. Who doesn’t love trivia, after all?

UNO. This card game offers nearly everything. Fast pace. Unpredictability. Countless laughs. If you’ve never played UNO before, it’s never too late to start. More than likely, you’ll absolutely love it! Don’t be surprised if many Beacon Hill residents will want to join you for several rounds of the game either, starting today!

By playing each of these games this winter, you’ll be anything but bored. Not only will you be regularly entertained, but you’ll become closer to Beacon Hill residents.

Who knows? Maybe you’ll also meet some new friends—friends that you’ll enjoy summertime activities with as well!
