Although it seems like we were just celebrating Christmas and New Year’s, Valentine’s Day is already here!
As you prepare for the next big holiday, here are some ideas to consider as you show love to others. Whether you’re married or single, this can be a special day for you—and your fellow Beacon Hill residents!
Create Valentine’s cards. When you were a child, did you used to pass out Valentine’s Day cards to your classmates? Why not continue the tradition in a different way—by creating your own Valentine’s cards and passing them out to Beacon Hill residents? This will be a fun activity not only for you, but dozens of residents as well. Imagine all the smiles!
Cook a Valentine’s Day-themed meal. If you’re married, maybe you could create a Valentine’s Day-themed meal with your spouse? Perhaps a fancy dinner, followed by a heart-shaped cake? Even if you’re not married, you can still create a special meal and share it with your neighbors at Beacon Hill!
Decorate. When you lived in your home(s) in the past, did you used to decorate for Valentine’s Day? Again, why stop now? Whether you create your own decorations or decide to purchase them, they’ll add a lot of joy to your life, as well as your guests’ lives. Spread some Valentine’s cheer this year!
Invite your family members over. Valentine’s Day is a special day of love. Why not spend it with the ones you truly love—your closest family members? Invite your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren over to enjoy the day with them. If you have friends that have become family, don’t forget about them, too.
Listen to love songs. Maybe your all-time favorite love song was released in the 1960s or 70s (or even earlier)? Perhaps a more recent song has become your favorite lately instead? Regardless, enjoy the art and beauty of music on Valentine’s Day while listening to a medley of your favorites.
Play games. Valentine’s Day should be a day of celebration. Is there a better way to celebrate than to relax and have fun while playing games with those who are closest to you? The options are practically endless too—Valentine’s-themed bingo, charades, Pictionary, and word games, to name a few!
Pull out your photo albums. If you’re now a widow, you can honor your spouse and their memory by pulling out some of your photo albums. On the other hand, if you’re still married, why not take a trip down memory lane with your spouse while looking at old (and new) photos with them? The two of you will treasure this one-on-one time together!
Talk, talk, talk. Sometimes the best way to honor a loved one’s memory or to become even closer to a loved one is to sit down and talk. Discuss what you love most about someone, as well as your favorite memories of—and with—them. If you have loved ones that you can’t visit in person, consider calling them and taking the time to talk to them, too.
Watch your favorite romantic movies. Aside from listening to your favorite love songs, don’t forget to also enjoy some of your favorite romantic movies. Maybe you prefer a couple that combine romance with comedy, leading to a lot of laughs? No matter what your preference is, set aside some time with your spouse or friends and relax, laugh, and reminisce.
Write a love letter. Whether you’re a widow or still married, consider writing a love letter to your spouse as well. If you’re a widow, this letter is a perfect way to honor their memory and enable you to reflect on your marriage and showcase your love. If you’re still married, your spouse will relish this letter more than any commercial item. After all, words mean far more than candy, flowers, and the like ever will!
Through each of these ideas, you’ll enjoy a special Valentine’s Day at Beacon Hill. Maybe it will be one of your favorite Valentine’s Days yet, when all is said and done?
No matter what, spread the love. Live life to the fullest and do everything you can to love yourself, your loved ones, your friends, and your fellow Beacon Hill residents!
