Fall Treats to Enjoy

As winter draws nearer and nearer, it’s important to fully grasp and enjoy every sunny and warm (or at least somewhat warm) day we have.

Go outside. Take a walk. Breathe the fresh air. Socialize with your fellow Beacon Hill residents. Relish outdoor fall activities.

But what about when the weather isn’t so lovely? What should you do when the skies are cloudy and a steady rain (or even a bit of snow) is falling down? Well, that’s the time to pursue an indoor fall activity instead.

And few indoor fall activities are as fun as eating fall-oriented treats. Whether you like to bake and cook or you simply prefer to buy your treats at grocery stores, consider the following 10 snacks.

Apple crisp. Nothing says fall much more than a bowl of apple crisp, covered by a scoop (or more) of vanilla ice cream—and then drizzled with caramel topping. To create this delicious dish, you’ll need two key ingredients: sliced apples and oats. Don’t forget to buy brown sugar, butter, cinnamon, flour, lemon juice, salt, and sugar, too!

Apple nachos. This may be the most interesting treat you’ll create this fall. A no-bake dessert, it features thinly sliced apples and various toppings. Use whichever type of apple you prefer, along with a wide array of sauces and toppings. Perhaps you prefer a healthier option that has coconut, dried fruit, and granola. Or maybe you have a sweet tooth and would like to add hot fudge, marshmallow cream, and candy bars instead? The options are endless!

Candy corn cookies. These desserts are rather unusual. However, they’re also simple, yet delicious! Just create sugar cookies (or whichever type of cookie you prefer) and then add as many candy corn pieces to them as you’d like. That’s it! The only main tip? Make sure you press every candy corn into each cookie—as soon as you remove them from the oven.

Iced pumpkin cookies. Whether you’re interested in sharing some treats with your fellow residents, children, or grandchildren, you can’t go wrong with these desserts. They’re as soft, sweet, and fall-oriented as desserts can be. Be sure to buy (or make) pumpkin cookie dough, along with butter, cinnamon, eggs, nutmeg, pumpkin puree, salt, and sugar.

Maple pumpkin butter bars. Uncommon as well, these bars combine an American fall staple (pumpkin) with a year-round Canadian staple (maple). The combination is fantastic, leading to a flavor you simply have to experience for yourself. Prior to making them, make sure you have these critical ingredients: maple syrup, pumpkin puree, and pumpkin pie spice. You’ll need several others too, such as brown sugar, butter, and eggs.

Oatmeal craisin cookies. Perhaps you could argue that these aren’t necessarily fall desserts. But you may no longer believe that once you’re enjoying their combination of dried cranberries, oats, and raisins on a cold, rainy fall day. You can also imagine the Pilgrims treasuring these desserts—which require ingredients like brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract, too—during the first Thanksgiving.

Pear crisp. Again, this isn’t a dessert you may think of right away when you’re discussing fall desserts. But pears are actually known as a fall fruit. Not to mention, once you add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of it, you’ll be glad you decided to think outside of the box. When you go to the store, be sure you purchase ripe pears and oats, as well as ingredients like butter, flour, and lemon juice.

Pecan pie bars. These are fantastic desserts to enjoy during Thanksgiving especially. They’re sweet. They’re crunchy. And they provide a fall aura once they come out of your oven. To bake these bars, you’ll need butter, chopped pecans, flour, sugar, and vanilla, among other ingredients. They are best right out of the oven, by the way—at the moment they’re hot and fresh!

Pecan pie cheesecake. Sometimes there’s nothing quite like a cheesecake. But have you ever thought about combining cheesecake with another classic dessert—pecan pie—before? If not, you will now! As you prepare this dish, be sure to create three layers overall: a graham cracker crust, the cheesecake itself, and the top layer, a pecan pie topping that features toasted pecans and caramel.

Sweet potato pie. Every Thanksgiving, families across the United States include sweet potatoes with their meal. You have a chance to relish this dish well beforehand—in the form of a dessert instead. You’ll need ingredients like butter, eggs, milk, pie crust, sugar, and, of course, the main ingredient…sweet potatoes. Combine these ingredients and treasure a dessert that’s not overly common!

While preparing for the next few weeks of fall, take time to try each of these snacks. The tastes, the aromas, and the joy of snacking will ensure this fall is one of your best yet.

Consider sharing them with Beacon Hill residents, too. You may even meet new friends while doing so!
