Make a Healthy Transition To Fall

Fall brings stunning landscapes and pleasant temperatures to our great state of Michigan, and to all of us here at our senior living community. As we enjoy this transitional time, we can also take advantage of the seasonal shift to reset. Here are some ways to savor this fall and prepare for the months ahead:

Update Your Vaccines

Now is the time to check with your doctor on what vaccines you might need to protect yourself from illness in the coming months, especially the flu and Covid-19 vaccines. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the flu shot protects against the influenza viruses that research indicates may be more prevalent this year. And those who stay up-to-date with their Covid-19 shots have a lower risk of severe illness, states the CDC.

Reset Your Bodyclock to Daylight

The days are getting shorter as the time between sunrise and sunset shortens between now and December 22, the winter solstice for the northern hemisphere. Adjusting your waking and sleeping times to sync with the changing daylight may help you feel more rested. Check out Sleep Tips for Seniors for more ideas on sleeping well.

Update Your Vitamins

Periodically reviewing your vitamins and supplements is a good idea to ensure you’re getting all the necessary benefits you need to stay healthy. This fall, check with your doctor on what you should be taking. Maybe now is a good time to increase your vitamin C intake during flu season or to add vitamin D as daylight decreases. Your doctor can advise you on any changes you should make.

Eat Seasonally

Enjoy the abundance of fall flavors with your taste buds and seek out fall produce like various squashes, apples and all things pumpkin. Find new, seasonal menu options at our many dining options.

Take in the Changing Landscape

Fall ushers forth beautiful aesthetic changes as the leaves turn to reds, golds and orange colors. See this Pure Michigan color map to check when predicted color changes will happen across Michigan. Give yourself the luxury of a fall walk to enjoy the leaves, or watch a video tour of some of the best foliage around the country.
