Can you believe winter is nearly here already?
The beauty of freshly fallen snow. The comfort of a blanket and jacket. And, unfortunately, the months-long risks of flu season, which especially affects folks like you.
However, there is good news. You can decrease your odds of having the flu considerably. To do so, consider the following advice.
Avoid Folks with the Flu. If you happen to know of a Beacon Hill resident that has the flu, please avoid spending time with them until they are no longer contagious. Not only will you diminish your likelihood of being sick too, but you’ll also reduce the spread of the flu throughout your community. You may even save lives!
Disinfect Consistently. It’s critical for you to disinfect your residence as often as possible. Focus especially on areas you touch frequently, such as doorknobs and light switches. The flu virus can live up to two days in some cases, so strive for consistency as you clean. In addition, don’t forget to sanitize your hands steadily!
Don’t Touch Your Face. Always try to decrease the amount of times you touch your face. More often than not, the flu virus will enter your eyes, mouth, and nose. By avoiding contact with these areas, you’ll minimize your chances of having the flu significantly.
Eat Healthy Foods. Just as your mom probably used to tell you, eat your greens! Don’t forget fruits either! By eating more fruits and veggies, along with chicken, eggs, fish, and whole grains, you’ll naturally have many of the vitamins and nutrients you need to enjoy a flu-free winter.
Enhance Your Air Quality. Without question, your residence’s air quality matters. Do whatever you can to remove viruses from the air you’re exposed to. Consider opening windows from time to time. Or purchase items like high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters, which will remove many toxins from your air quickly and consistently.
Exercise Regularly. Perhaps you’re not much of a “workout person.” Maybe you’re unsure of what you can—and can’t—do physically. Regardless, there are exercise options for you! Simply walk for a few minutes each day or lift light weights if you can’t walk. You can also stretch or participate in chair exercises. Just be sure to move your body as much as you can every day. You’ll increase your immunities as a result!
Purchase Vitamins and Minerals. Even if you eat healthy foods daily, you may have some vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Ask your doctor to test you for any deficiencies as soon as you can. If any are discovered, be sure to purchase whichever vitamins and minerals you need to boost your immune system.
Reduce Your Stress. Yes, you’re retired and treasuring your Golden Years. But that doesn’t mean you aren’t stressed from time to time. No matter why you’re stressed, focus on minimizing your stress levels as much as you can. You’ll feel better—and you’ll strengthen your body’s immune system. Perhaps you can meditate or participate in more hobbies? When it comes to stress reduction ideas, the options are practically endless!
Remain Hydrated. By drinking fluids all day long, you’ll remove toxins from your body. You’ll also improve your health, enabling you to fight infections like the flu more easily. If you don’t like water much, consider drinking hot broth, cocoa, and tea this winter.
Sleep for at Least Six Hours. You should try to sleep for at least six hours every night. Eight or nine hours are even more ideal! By receiving an adequate amount of sleep each night, your immune system will likely be healthy all winter long.
Vaccinate! Don’t forget your annual flu shot either—sooner, rather than later. In fact, you may want to request a different option this year, aside from the usual flu shot. Adjuvanted or high-dose flu vaccines are potentially more ideal choices, as they may enhance your immunities considerably.
Wash Your Hands Consistently. Whenever you’re in public places (and you don’t have access to hand sanitizer), wash your hands! Focus on washing them with soap and water for roughly 30 seconds. By doing so, you may prevent future sicknesses!
To increase your odds of a healthy winter, please consider implementing each of these tips, starting today! You’ll feel better, your Beacon Hill community will be healthier, and you’ll be able to relish yet another gorgeous winter!
