What To Know About Beacon Hill’s Upcoming Expansion – West End

Retirement Community to Add Residences, World-Class Amenities to Continue Enriching the Lives of Seniors

If you’ve been waiting for a sign that it’s time to choose Beacon Hill at Eastgate, you’ve found it: Our Life Plan Community has just announced a 400,000-square-foot expansion to our existing campus that will change the look of senior living in Grand Rapids.

What could that mean for you? Whether you’re a current resident or thinking of becoming a future resident, this expansion truly could change your life for the better.

West End at Beacon Hill is the ideal blend of brand-new residences, services and amenities — coming to a stable, long-standing community that’s been serving west Michigan-area seniors and their families for more than 65 years.

Here’s how West End is changing the look of senior living in Grand Rapids and how it could change your retirement living in the future.

Remarkable new residences

As Beacon Hill’s third major expansion project launched in the past decade, West End will add 103 brand-new one- and two-bedroom independent living residences. Ranging in size from 1,100-1,700 square feet, each of these residences will host spacious, elegant interiors that feature stylish finishes and all-new home appliances.

The new independent living building will be situated along Plymouth Avenue and Boston Street in Grand Rapids. Its exterior design will reflect the modern Tudor architecture currently found in the Eastgate neighborhood.

Future West End residents will delight in the same services and amenities current residents enjoy, such as indoor climate-controlled parking; private transportation; maintenance-free living, including utilities; and weekly housekeeping. And that’s just scratching the surface of everything you’ll find here.

Notable new common spaces

The West End expansion brings with it a number of brand-new common spaces that will join Beacon Hill’s already-impressive list, including one all-new restaurant and a new coffee shop. This is in addition to Beacon Hill’s four on-site restaurants with farm-to-fork cuisine, al fresco dining, a steak and seafood restaurant, and a bistro — even room service.

And because we place a high value on intergenerational and community connections here at Beacon Hill, neighbors from our surrounding community will continue to enjoy access to these amenities, too.

New, larger community grounds

Once completed, the West End expansion will add a full acre of space that will be accessible to the surrounding neighborhood. That comes out to 3.5 acres of intra-campus walking paths that will also be open to our neighbors and friends. West End will bring new natural green spaces, gardens and terraces to our campus as well.

New assisted living and memory care

As part of the West End expansion, we’re proud to announce the redevelopment of our assisted living and memory care residences.

To promote accessibility and community between residents across the continuum of care, West End will be connected to the main campus by a new indoor terrarium walking bridge framed by floor-to-ceiling windows.

Get in on the ground floor of everything new

When the expansion was first announced, we had a feeling that interest in West End would be exceptionally high. That’s why we’re doing more than simply expanding our campus; we’re evolving it to help us better exceed the high standards and expectations of today’s and tomorrow’s older adults.

By listening to the needs of our residents and the surrounding community, we’re doing all we can to create people-centered designs that put residents, staff and community first – all so we can deliver exceptional care to the people that call Beacon Hill home.

Construction is slated to begin in 2026, and we expect to welcome new residents in 2028. By becoming a priority member, you can proactively plan for your future and enjoy some members-only perks.
