Background and Journey to Beacon Hill
Born and raised in the picturesque town of Ocho Rios, Jamaica, Garnet Henlin’s culinary journey began at the Runaway Bay Culinary Institution. It was during these formative years that Garnet discovered his true passion for the culinary arts. He embarked on his career as a private chef at multiple guest houses, refining his skills and honing his craft.
Garnet’s professional journey took him to various resorts in Jamaica, where he served as a kitchen supervisor. However, his culinary adventure didn’t stop there. In search of new horizons, he made the bold decision to come to the United States. His first culinary role in the U.S. was at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island, where he started as a breakfast cook in the main kitchen. His dedication and talent soon led to a promotion as a Kitchen Supervisor for breakfast. Over time, he expanded his expertise by becoming a kitchen supervisor at some of the hotel’s outlet restaurants, including the Jockey Club and the Fort Tea Room.
In 2006, when Grand Hotel acquired a new restaurant, The Gatehouse Restaurant, Garnet stepped into the role of Sous Chef for three seasons. His relentless commitment to his craft and exemplary culinary skills resulted in his promotion to Executive Chef in 2010. Garnet dedicated a remarkable 11 years as the Executive Chef at The Gatehouse Restaurant, perfecting his art and elevating the dining experience.
Intrigued by the opportunity to further his culinary skills and meet the unique dietary needs of each resident, Garnet decided to join the culinary team at Beacon Hill.
