Activities to Treasure with Your Relatives

Oftentimes, we—here at Beacon Hill—offer you suggestions of activities you can enjoy with your friends and grandkids. But what about your other relatives? Your nieces and nephews? Your cousins? Your siblings?

What can you do with all of them, leading to more family unity? Here are some ideas for you to consider the next few months. Enjoy!

Bake and cook together. In the past, were there any recipes that your family loved to make—and eat—with each other? From birthdays to Christmas (and everything in between), there were probably several dishes that stood out to all of you. Why not bake and cook them with your relatives? You’ll relive the past, while also fully embracing the present.

Call out-of-state relatives—together. Most likely, you have at least a few relatives that live outside of Michigan. Consider calling them while your fellow Michiganders are visiting you. Simply turn the speakerphone on and provide everyone a chance to talk the next time you’re with your local relatives. This will be a fantastic family reunion!

Create photo albums. Is there any better way to reacquaint with loved ones than to look at old photo albums together? What if you went a step further and created the albums with them? You can share the idea with your relatives and start determining some days and times that work best for all of you to gather together and create your albums. You’ll be making new memories, while also treasuring old ones!

Dance together. Yes, you read that correctly. Dance together! Determine some of the songs you all enjoy—and then start dancing together, while listening to your favorite music. The smiles and laughs will be endless in your residence!

Find old home movies. Do any of your relatives happen to know where your old home movies are—the ones featuring all of you together during birthdays, holidays, and just “regular days”? If so, ask them to bring them to your residence and begin watching them together. Celebrate your past, reflect on your present, and prepare for your future as a family unit!

Play some games. Did you ever play board games with your relatives back in the day? Why not continue the tradition in 2026? Whether you meet with them in their homes or they visit your residence, consider playing board games with them on a regular basis. Yet again, you’ll have an opportunity to celebrate the past, present, and future!

Reminisce on other items from the past. Aside from photo albums and home movies, do you have any other items from the past that you can share with your relatives? Maybe you all enjoyed a movie from the 1960s? Perhaps you have an autographed album from a band you all admired? Think outside the box a bit. You’ll likely surprise yourselves with your commonalities!

Savor the arts. There is no doubt about it. Few activities are as relaxing as the arts. Whether you’re crafting, creating pottery, painting, or participating in a variety of other arts projects, you’ll be able to “breathe” and focus only on that task at hand. Why not start enjoying your favorite artistic hobbies with your relatives as well? In fact, you can even begin visiting local art museums and theatres with them to also experience the arts outside of Beacon Hill.

Take a drive. Without question, Beacon Hill is a great place to live. However, it’s okay to leave and savor life outside of Beacon Hill, too. Start planning little trips with your relatives, whether you drive with them or meet them somewhere. Maybe you have some favorite restaurants, stores, and other places you can visit together, along with old schools and homes? The options are practically limitless!

Work out together. Again, yes, you read that correctly. Why not exercise with your relatives? You’ll be supporting one another, striving to enhance each other’s health, and spending quality time together. Talk about a win-win-win!

Whether you choose to meet up at Beacon Hill only or you’d rather visit some attractions nearby, it’s really not about where you see your relatives. It’s all about the time you spend with them.

Why not start sharing these ideas soon, even today? Most likely, they’ll absolutely love them. In fact, they may lead all of you to become even closer!
