Beacon Hill at Eastgate Invites Community to a Summer of Fun at the Annual Concerts on the Green Series
Join us for our 9th annual Concerts on the Green series, where community members of all ages are invited to connect and enjoy the sounds of local musicians and the flavors of delicious, creatively prepared meals.
Made possible by the Beacon Hill Foundation, the concerts begin at 7 p.m. on the second Wednesday of the month July through September on the front lawn at Beacon Hill at Eastgate, 1919 Boston St. SE. The concerts are free and open to the community.
“The annual Concerts on the Green series is a highlight we look forward to every summer because it allows our residents, our team and members of the community to gather and build lasting connections – all while sharing the joy of some of the best music and most delicious food Grand Rapids has to offer,” Beacon Hill Foundation Chair Micki Benz said. “It’s more than just a concert series – it’s a celebration of community, the arts and culinary creativity.”
This year’s lineup is:
- July 9 – Selkie performing traditional and original Celtic music. Selkie beautifully weaves the rich sounds of flute, fiddle, bouzouki, banjo, guitar, accordion and harp, creating a captivating and dynamic musical experience.
- August 13 – Edye Evans Hyde Trio performing a blend of pop, jazz and blues. Evans Hyde has been teaching and performing jazz, blues and pop music for more 30 years. She has shared the stage with world-renowned blues and pop singers and has also performed with the Grand Rapids Symphony. Hyde will be joined by two critically acclaimed musicians – her guitarist husband, Michael Hyde, and saxophonist, Mike Frost.
- September 10 – Mike Lutley Quintet, featuring Mary Rademacher, performing jazz. Lutley has been active in music for more than 50 years, with his first gigs in Grand Rapids starting in 1979 as a member of the Bruce Early Big Band – later becoming the Grand Rapids Jazz Orchestra – and Henry Swart’s River City Jazz Ensemble. He has performed with the Grand Rapids Symphony and various groups for the West Michigan Jazz Society. In 2015, Lutley was named West Michigan Jazz Society’s Musician of the Year.
Concertgoers are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair. Limited on-site parking is available; walking or carpooling is encouraged.
Beacon Hill’s food truck, The Traveling Plate, will offer a rotating menu of delicious meals and refreshments for purchase from 5:30-8 p.m. All meals prepared by The Traveling Plate are carefully curated using fresh ingredients from Beacon Hill’s half-acre community garden and local purveyors. The Concerts on the Green series is one of the engaging events made possible by the Beacon Hill Foundation, which further enhances the lives of residents, team members and the Eastgate community through benevolent care and life enrichment opportunities, including health and wellness, spiritual care, the arts and education. This year, the Foundation is celebrating 10 years of cultivating care and community.
We can’t wait to spend the summer connecting with our community and soaking in the incredible sounds from some of the area’s most talented musicians.
