Helping Food Pantries

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – February 13, 2023 . . . It started with the COVID outbreak in 2020, a group of Beacon Hill residents – the Beacon Hill “Bag Committee” — began collecting brown paper bags with handles and delivering them to Feeding America West Michigan to distribute to various, local food pantries in West Michigan.

The food pantries were delighted and grateful for the bags as many of the folks who request food come to the pantries with nothing to carry their groceries home in. The paper bags must have handles – certainly easier to carry a bag-full of groceries.

Beyond bringing the brown paper bags with handles to Feeding America, the Beacon Hill “Bag Committee” also collect and donate unopened, unexpired food items, and make financial contributions. To date, the group has collected dozens if not hundreds of bags along with canned goods and other non-perishable food items as well as over $2,000 in donations.

Hats off and kudos to this actively generous group for helping those who have not only struggled through the pandemic but continue to face hardships in providing good, healthy food for themselves and their families.
