America‘s Best Continuing Care Retirement Community

Beacon Hill at Eastgate Awarded on Newsweek's America’s Best Continuing Care Retirement Communities 2024 List

The Methodology Behind Newsweek’s
America‘s Best CCRC 2024

Beacon Hill at Eastgate is proud to receive recognition on Newsweek’s list of America‘s Best Continuing Care Retirement Communities 2024. Newsweek, the news magazine and website, partnered with Statista, a world leader in the creation of industry rankings, to award the leading Continuing Care Retirement communities (CCRCs). The list recognizes the top 250 America’s Best CCRCs 2024 in the US. Beacon Hill at Eastgate is ranked at #41 out of 250, and #2 within the state of Michigan.

The demand for communities like ours is steadily increasing, a trend Newsweek highlights in More People Are Choosing Continuing Care Retirement Communities—This Is Why. CCRCs offer maximum flexibility for residents as their medical needs change, providing a variety of long-term care offerings all within the same environment. This list of rankings acknowledges best-in-class communities, and serves as a thorough resource for those who are making decisions about their future housing needs.

How are these 250 CCRCs chosen?

Each recommended community, including Beacon Hill at Eastgate, was evaluated through a comprehensive analysis of national online surveys, including recommendations from professionals, care level assessment, acquaintance or resident rankings, and quality assessment. These, combined with a reputation score and CCRC accreditation, resulted in the overall score.

This past August to September, medical professionals (such as registered nurses, therapists, and physicians) and staff working in the management and administration of CCRCs were surveyed on, and via several social media platforms. Participants were asked to recommend notable CCRCs, aside from their own place of employment. A score was assigned to each CCRC based on the number of recommendations, which were weighted based on the order in which they were named.

The four levels of care at each CCRC were also reviewed and scores for Independent Living, Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing Care, Memory Care were calculated based on the professionals’ recommendations for each recommended CCRC.

For overall quality, eight areas were evaluated for a score based on an acquaintance or resident’s recommendations for each mentioned CCRC. Participants were asked to rate the following eight quality aspects on a scale from 1 (“Poor”) to 10 (“Excellent”):

  • Accommodation (qualifications, experience, number of courses)
  • Commercial Services (transportation, postal services, maintenance, service, housekeeping)
  • Community Services (number of activities offered, quality of leisure activities, fitness center, library)
  • Financial Factors (affordability, value for money)
  • Food (variety of menu, product quality, room service, restaurant)
  • Overall Care (safety of residents, communication, hygiene measures)
  • Overall Safety Measures (treatments/therapies, consultation with doctor/therapist)
  • Overall Staffing (size of room, quality of furnishing, leisure, activities)

Additionally, the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) Accreditation was used as an element of the scoring model. CARF International is an independent nonprofit accreditor of health and human services.

Approximately 2,000 CCRCs operate within the US, and we at Beacon Hill at Eastgate are proud to be named to this esteemed list of best-in-class communities. We appreciate our staff, our medical teams and our residents who make this a great place to live.
