10 Holiday Games to Play this Month

Is there any other time of the year that’s as fun as the holiday season?

From the gift giving, to the music, to the delicious feasts, the entire month of December is a period of pure joy. As you plan get-togethers with your friends, family members, and fellow Beacon Hill residents, you can add even more joy to your holiday season though.

How so, you may ask? Play games. Yes, games! You’ll increase your camaraderie with your guests, laugh hard, and exercise your mind and body.

Here are 10 games that you and your guests will love to play in your residence throughout the holidays. Think outside the box, embrace the season’s uniqueness, and relive your childhood!

Charades. Did you know that there’s a Christmas version of “Charades”? If you’re interested in playing a very active, entertaining, and fun game with your guests this holiday season, look no further than this one! While playing this version, your guests will act out various holiday-themed words—without speaking, resulting in unlimited entertainment.

Gingerbread house creation. If your guests love to craft, they may be interested in creating gingerbread houses with you. Why not have a little competition with them to see who creates a gingerbread house first? Perhaps you can provide a prize to whoever wins, too?

Guessing scents. This game requires each guest to not have a stuffy nose. Seriously! Blindfold each of your guests and pass around several holiday scented objects. See who is able to guess the object correctly most often, leading to a grand prize for the winner. You’ll soon see if the “nose knows”!

Oven mitts unwrapping. Talk about thinking outside the box! This game will require a pair of oven mitts and numerous gifts to unwrap. Watch your guests take turns as they attempt to unwrap a gift while wearing the mitts. Patience is key!

Pictionary. Prior to hosting your get-together, create some holiday categories that your guests can draw out, while playing a holiday version of “Pictionary.” Sit back and watch your guests try to draw a variety of seasonal characters and objects. The sky is the limit!

Santa says. Most likely, you’ve heard of the game “Simon says” before. This is a great time of the year to mix it up a bit and play an entirely different version. Your younger grandkids will especially love this game, as they’ll act out whatever Santa says they should do—from riding a sleigh to building a snowman.

Tic-tac-toe. If you’re planning on inviting your young grandkids to a holiday party this year, consider playing Christmas tic-tac-toe with them, too. They’ll love to draw Christmas characters on each piece of paper, along with the usual tic-tac-toe spaces. Maybe they’ll want to color each character as well? Regardless, you’ll create memories they’ll treasure when they’re older!

Trivia. There is arguably no better “brain exercise” than trivia. And, luckily, there are countless holiday-themed trivia games to choose from! You and your guests can spend hours playing trivia if you’d like. In fact, you may not even realize how much time has gone by!

Twenty questions. When you were a kid, you probably never played a game quite like this one. Now is your chance to start a new tradition! While one of your guests thinks of a holiday character or object, your other guests will guess who or what they’re thinking of, while asking up to 20 questions.

White elephant. Simply ask each of your guests to bring an affordable, fun, and even humorous gift with them. From there, each guest will take turns opening gifts. If they’d like, they can either open a new gift or “steal” one that’s already been opened. Continue this process until every gift has been opened, leading to infinite laughter!

As the snow falls and the temperatures continue to drop, enjoy your time indoors while playing each of these games. Your guests—whether they’re Beacon Hill neighbors, old friends, or your grandkids—will absolutely love them!
